Something's missing

There are some songs today that don't give much meaning to the listener. For example, Lady Gaga's songs, which I choose not to listen to, or Kesha's songs that are basically about her craziness and her not getting sober and her party ways. Though these genre of songs may be fun and good for dancing to, I feel that they are shallow and kind of say a lot about our culture.

I mean personally, I would much rather listen to artists who actually have something worthy to sing about than listening to an unoriginal song about going to a club and drinking too much, but just with a different beat, and the singer's name is different. I much rather listen to artists who actually have talent, who can sing, and or write their own lyrics. I think that is very cool and takes a lot of natural talent to think of song lyrics, that are original and creative. Some of the artists that write their own songs are Nelly Furtado, John Mayer, Jewel, Sara Bareilles, Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, Taylor Swift and many more. I think it is also cool how artists sing covers of other songs. I especially like David Archuleta's cover of Vanessa Carlton's A Thousand Miles.
Also found on you tube is the sister group called Cimorelli who do all sorts of covers from today's well known songs.

I find these type of artists are the best and I feel that they are not always recognized for their work and extraordinary talent, which unfortunately gets dismissed when songs like Last Friday Night by Katy Perry are the summer hit and everyone knows it. But you have to think, is it that great of a song? I mean, I first feel like anyone could write a song that had to do with a summer fling. And secondly, I feel that a lot of people could sing that song better than Katy Perry herself, or even write their own original work that would receive an A grade, compared to her worse than mediocre voice and phony personality, which gives a bitter sound to music.

I only wish I could play an instrument well; I only know a little piano and a few strings on a violin. And wish that I had a wonderful talent for songwriting. I guess such things like these only take practice to get better at. However, it's not worth it to give up all together, since if you don't try, you'll never know... this sounds familiar, I don't know what song it's from, maybe Coldplay (another great band!)

Finding out what type of music a person listens to you can say a lot about them, and I think it is important to have a diverse selection of music genres, just like being well read... so you seem more knowledgeable and can have discussions about this with other people(I feel that I still need to be well read!) Instead, for example, of only listening to rap- which can hurt your ears after a while, and can't always understand what they are saying anyway. Plus, there are a lot of good stuff out there, so why would anyone want to miss out?!
