I'm feeling better with San Francisco

"I'm feeling better since you've known me. I was a lonely soul, but that was the old me."

Lately I have found joy in listening to One Republic's new single, Feel Again. I feel that it can relate to anyone because people shape us who we are today and without knowing that person or people we were perhaps lonely.

Deciding on what college to transfer to has been a difficult decision. I feel I have come in full circle. First last Fall with thinking of SJSU and SFSU. Then this past Spring thinking of SFSU and UC Berkely and then in the Summer thinking of SJSU and CSUS. But now I know that I want to go to SFSU. I feel that I am meant to go there and can see myself in the city by the bay. We will see how everything goes, but I am feeling better since I've known that I am meant for San Francisco.

Clocks and New dreams

Childhood dreams as what Nelly Furtado titled as one of her songs, is about her thinking as a child. She states that she is sliding on the rainbows of her childhood dreams. We know that our childhood thinking and dreams change as we grow up. Usually we remember them, yet we do not have that same way of thinking or the same dreams as when we are teenagers. Teenage dream as what Katy Perry titled her song, I think has something to do about a relationship and it being all perfect and dandy. Being a teenager, I'm not sure what my dreams are. I guess looking back, it can be easier to figure out. However, I wont be a teenager for long. My last few days being one are coming quickly. A little more than a week and I will be 20, and I'm excited to see what will come in this new stage of life. It's not just about turning another number, but it's also about learning, growing and experiencing another year of life, as with all birthdays.

I wonder what song will be sung for this stage of life.  My childhood dreams have already passed and may be remembered, yet do not have a lot of significance. And as for my teenage dreams, they are soon to pass and fade with time, just like my childhood dreams. Time is moving forward all the time, but we have to know what to do with it and how to use it. What will come of turning a year older as well as growing out of the teenager years?

A year is a broad amount of time, and so much can happen in a years time. So I just focus on day
to day and appreciate each moment, well I try to at least. My question is, will there be young adult dreams? Will it be like those innocent and daydream like thinking as a child, or perhaps clouded and unrealistic dreams as a teenager? All I know is that I'm growing up and growing out of phases that have seemed to come and go with time. Yes, this word time again. Truth be told, it's all we have right now, time. But we do not know how much we have left of it.

It reminds me of two movies or books, which ever one you like better. But it reminds me of the book/movie To Kill a Mocking Bird. I remember Jem and his sister Scout found a clock and talking about it in my highschool English class, the clock symbolized Jem's time of growing up and phasing out of childhood. That is kind of how I feel a little, yet it's with teenage hood.
The other book/movie is Alice and Wonderland. What came to mind was the rabbit holding his clock, and so worried about the time and being late for an important date. He had not time for anything, and was so concerned that the clock kept on ticking.

With time comes new dreams and new adventures and experiences. I wonder what they will be.

Stop this Train

Stop this train/ I want to get off and go home again/ I can't take the speed it's moving in/ I know I can't/ but honestly wont someone stop this train.
I don't know if you have heard of this song before, but I love listening to it, and sometimes I feel the same way. I want to stop this train! I know things are going to change, and I know time keeps on moving on, yet we do not have the ability nor the power to stop or change it.

Each time I listen to this song by John Mayer, I realize how fast life can go. Ironically I was listening to it once on Bart and thinking how time doesn't stand still. Time is like the speed of light, it's always moving.

In the song, John doesn't want to grow older, and is only good at being young. But his dad tells him, don't stop this train, don't change the place your in, John honestly, we'll never stop this train.

Basically there are three stages to this song, and perhaps even life.

He wanted time to stand still, and for things to stay the same. He didn't want to grow older and didn't want to see his parents pass away.
He turned to his wise dad, and he told him logically, that we will never stop this train.
He realizes that he can not change or stop time, cause now I'll see I'll never stop this train.

If you want to sing out, sing out

While listening to music on my ipod this morning, I came across the song If you want to sing out by Cat Stevens. It 's a simple song, with not a lot of instruments, but meaningful words. And every time I listen to it I find that the lyrics speak to me in some way.

The chorus goes like this: You can do what you want, the opportunities on, and you can find  a new way, you can do it today, you make it all true, and you can make it undo, you see ahh ahh it's easy ahh ahh you only need to know....

I love these lyrics. It makes you feel as if your opportunities are endless and the sky is the limit. Although most people say that is true, it can be hard to believe. I don't know about you, but sometimes you can doubt yourself at times. Like what do I have to offer? Or what ideas of mine will come to use?

According to Cat, it's easy and you can make it all come true, since there are a million things to do as he later sings. Well thank you Cat Stevens for these encouraging words for the day. I guess it inspires me to think that I can do anything I put my mind to. Sometimes you think that your dreams or ideas are too high up in the clouds, and you say to yourself that that is impossible, get back on the ground!

But I think I'll take Cat Stevens route and sing out.

Something's missing

There are some songs today that don't give much meaning to the listener. For example, Lady Gaga's songs, which I choose not to listen to, or Kesha's songs that are basically about her craziness and her not getting sober and her party ways. Though these genre of songs may be fun and good for dancing to, I feel that they are shallow and kind of say a lot about our culture.

I mean personally, I would much rather listen to artists who actually have something worthy to sing about than listening to an unoriginal song about going to a club and drinking too much, but just with a different beat, and the singer's name is different. I much rather listen to artists who actually have talent, who can sing, and or write their own lyrics. I think that is very cool and takes a lot of natural talent to think of song lyrics, that are original and creative. Some of the artists that write their own songs are Nelly Furtado, John Mayer, Jewel, Sara Bareilles, Vanessa Carlton, Michelle Branch, Taylor Swift and many more. I think it is also cool how artists sing covers of other songs. I especially like David Archuleta's cover of Vanessa Carlton's A Thousand Miles.
Also found on you tube is the sister group called Cimorelli who do all sorts of covers from today's well known songs.

I find these type of artists are the best and I feel that they are not always recognized for their work and extraordinary talent, which unfortunately gets dismissed when songs like Last Friday Night by Katy Perry are the summer hit and everyone knows it. But you have to think, is it that great of a song? I mean, I first feel like anyone could write a song that had to do with a summer fling. And secondly, I feel that a lot of people could sing that song better than Katy Perry herself, or even write their own original work that would receive an A grade, compared to her worse than mediocre voice and phony personality, which gives a bitter sound to music.

I only wish I could play an instrument well; I only know a little piano and a few strings on a violin. And wish that I had a wonderful talent for songwriting. I guess such things like these only take practice to get better at. However, it's not worth it to give up all together, since if you don't try, you'll never know... this sounds familiar, I don't know what song it's from, maybe Coldplay (another great band!)

Finding out what type of music a person listens to you can say a lot about them, and I think it is important to have a diverse selection of music genres, just like being well read... so you seem more knowledgeable and can have discussions about this with other people(I feel that I still need to be well read!) Instead, for example, of only listening to rap- which can hurt your ears after a while, and can't always understand what they are saying anyway. Plus, there are a lot of good stuff out there, so why would anyone want to miss out?!

Sing a new song

Singing has been one of my hobbies and has been for a while. I tend to do it in my spare time and enjoy looking up lyrics to songs that I like, so I can learn how to sing them. Here are a few that I have memorized, and continue to practice: A thousand miles by Vanessa Carlton, Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard, If I die young by Band Perry, Hallelujah, Mary's in India by Dido, Beautiful Disaster by Kelly Clarkson, Sand in my shoes by Dido, Dance with my father by Luther Vandross, I just called to say I love you by Stevie Wonder, and more.

I always get inspired to sing and especially this time of year, Christmas songs which I love too! The ones I enjoy to sing are Have yourself a merry little Christmas, do you hear what I hear?, little drummer boy, silent night, o come all ye faithful,ect... These are such a joy to sing, and they give the true meaning of Christmas. I hope you get in the spirit of Christmas, and join in the celebration to sing Christmas carols too.

"Yes I can run, I can run run run"

This was from a song by Natasha Bedingfield called Run, that I listened to on Pandora. It made me think of exercising and running. Before I use to run practically everyday, I must admit it was a lot easier in the summer when the days were longer, and it was a lot warmer. However, I have been for the most part keeping up with running in this colder weather along with the sunlight decreasing each day.

Last week, I attempted to run in the rain. To be honest it was really fun, and it wasn't really even that cold compared to a cloudy, windy day. Of course I did get a little wet, since I came in before the pouring happened. But it's something about the rain that I like to run in, maybe because no one's really outside, probably all in the mall or the library. But I think it also has to do with that the rain lets your mind and matters pour out, and you can just let go. Its mysterious and also ambitious, strong weather, but you can join in and be ambitious too, by running in it.

My goal for this week is to get back into running when I can, even if it is a little cold. I've found that running/exercising really helps with stress, and clears your mind when you feel that you are weighed down. So embrace getting in shape this holiday season, because "I can run, I can run run run!"
