They call me mellow yellow

Where the mood is mellow....that's usually how my mood is, mellow, yellow and chill. And it also
happens to be a line of a song that I like haha so I guess it all works out.

I aspire this blog to be more style/fashion based as well as creative thoughts, ideas and words put on the page. WMM blog I hope will be inspiring, fun and something new.

More later
pearls and health,
Colleen

If only

"If only you could sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person."

Just Another Silly Dreamer: Put it on my someday shopping list

This is a blog that I stumbled upon. It's super cute and I wanted to share this post:)
Just Another Silly Dreamer: Put it on my someday shopping list: Yep.  That's me. Not really a clue in the world as to what I want to do with my life, but what I do know who I want to be. And that...

Something that my head thought and my hand wrote

Last night I started writing some lyrics, that came out to be poems. I think I got inspired by watching an interview of Nelly Furtado, and she was talking about how her top hit songs came to be, and how and why she came up with the lyrics and the meaning of each song. I really felt like writing, and I have a story in process now, yet didn't feel like putting energy into my character. Instead I decided to write what came into my mind, and I got two poems, I guess you could say from it.
They have literal meanings as well as metaphor meaning.

The first poem is called Let the Rain Fall
The rain falls on me, I raise my head to the heavens and open
my mouth to let it all in. Sometimes you just have to trust and let
it all come in. Let it come in and don't tell it to turn away. Don't lock the door or make sure there are no spaces in between. Don't hide under a tree to stay dry, or put up your polka dotted umbrella.
Don't be like the cats who scurry and hurry to stay dry, but be like the ducks who turn out to have all the luck. For embrace it, welcome all your troubles to knock on your door, and let it come in.
Be brave, yet strong, firm, yet gentle, patient and kind. For you will know what to do when it comes to mind. Have faith and hope, but do not mope. Raise your head to the heavens and accept the rain and let it fall into your mouth, and on your skin and eyelashes, for you will soon see it was meant to be.

The second poem I wrote is called How Will it Be
How will it be when you are not in my boat anymore. Somehow, someday you will find another
one that will be better. We may cross paths, or you may decide to come in mine again.
When you do there will be new people whom you may have not met, and they might have taken the place of you. Your seat may be taken, and you will have to create a new one that will only belong to you. Your view and perspective from your seat will be different, not necessarily worse or better just different. You will see the ocean in a new light, the mountain top from your angle may not be as good as a sight as you remember it, or it may seem like there are shorter days and longer nights.
The birds will be flying higher because they have caught something, and I know that I am flying higher because I caught you.

If you want to sing out, sing out

While listening to music on my ipod this morning, I came across the song If you want to sing out by Cat Stevens. It 's a simple song, with not a lot of instruments, but meaningful words. And every time I listen to it I find that the lyrics speak to me in some way.

The chorus goes like this: You can do what you want, the opportunities on, and you can find  a new way, you can do it today, you make it all true, and you can make it undo, you see ahh ahh it's easy ahh ahh you only need to know....

I love these lyrics. It makes you feel as if your opportunities are endless and the sky is the limit. Although most people say that is true, it can be hard to believe. I don't know about you, but sometimes you can doubt yourself at times. Like what do I have to offer? Or what ideas of mine will come to use?

According to Cat, it's easy and you can make it all come true, since there are a million things to do as he later sings. Well thank you Cat Stevens for these encouraging words for the day. I guess it inspires me to think that I can do anything I put my mind to. Sometimes you think that your dreams or ideas are too high up in the clouds, and you say to yourself that that is impossible, get back on the ground!

But I think I'll take Cat Stevens route and sing out.

Fashion Model to Role Model

Recently I watched an interview of  Leah Darrow. She has an amazing story. If you aren't familiar with her, she tried out for America's Next Top Model after college and got on the show. Her story starts from there, and is pretty intense. I feel like my explanation won't do justice, so I guess you just have to watch the interview for yourself.  You can go to you tube and watch an interview on her. I saw a long, but very good interview, and it was on Life on the Rock. She talked about her story, how she got into the modeling world , and what happened form there and what she is doing now.

She now is a speaker of fashion, modesty and dignity. Her story speaks to many girls, teenagers and young adults and older around the country. At first she was a Top Model, but now she's a Role Model.  I hope her story inspires and touches you, like it did for me.

The secret life of sees, but mainly bees

Recently I watched the movie The Secret Life of Bees and I admire the author Sue Monk Kidd, and her creativity and writing talent, which makes this story so good. Since I have also read the book as well. For those who are unfamiliar with this book/movie, it is about a girl who has an angry father, and no mother, yet wants to know about her and yearns for a mother figure in her life as well as to be loved. It's a coming age of story, which takes you to the growing and learning of the 14 year old girl named Lily Owens who eventually finds peace, love, happiness and more knowledge about her mother. It's not only for girls, since my brother watched the whole thing with my sisters and I. I hope someday I can write a story as good as Sue Monk Kidd with as complex, yet interesting and fun characters who make their world feel real to a humble reader.

You may wonder why I put The secret life of sees, instead of bees in the title. Well, I wanted to bring up chocolate, preferably sees chocolate. Throughout the holiday season I have eaten enough sweets, mainly chocolate to last me awhile. Sees chocolate especially always gets the better of me, maybe it's all the numerous options to choose from, or just Mrs. Sees herself who softly says, take a bite of my chocolates, and nothing seems better than to do so. Whatever it is, I know that I am a sweet tooth, and like honey in the secret life of bees, it's decadent and creates a taste in your mouth that can be hard to describe. Lily thirsted for a mother, and for affection, which she never got at home. These are some of the most important things in life, that happens to be universal. As August Boatwright says in the Secret Life of Bees, everything needs to be loved. Though there are times when I wish I could control  more of my sweet tooth ways, it's important to see things the way they are, and see you the way you are.
To not sugar coat things but let the light shine through... for the truth will set you free.

So if you are anything like Lily who seeks her destiny, with 3 mother figures, finds peace and happiness, and is surrounded by bees who carry secrets, and the queen who sits on her throne; or anything like me, who wants eventually to write a somewhat decent story, then don't let your secrets crowd your head. Do what you love, and everything else will follow.

Right brain

Tedious projects, boring topics to write about for an essay, and studying for tests can all be hard to do, especially this part of the semester. Whenever I have a hard subject to study for or an assignment that is so easy to put off, the things that come to mind are the things I'd rather be doing. This is probably not the best approach to getting something done, yet I somehow always seem to make it through in the end.

For instance, studying for a history test and listening to music, I think how much more fun and easy it would be to write lyrics to a song instead trying to focus on studying for a subject that I find hard to care about. This obviously proves that I am more right brained than left. I just think something more creative would be so much more enjoyable than reading through a textbook. Well, once finals are over, I guess I could spend more time doing creative activities. But somehow it doesn't feel the same when faced with such an uncreative task than compared to free time.

Writing from the past

Throughout the past week I started another story... yes, another one. This happens a lot, since I felt like my story wasn't going the way I wanted it to, so I started another one.

I've used things and events that have happened in my life to be brought out in my story. Like I've mentioned in a previous blog about writing what you know, I feel this is  a really helpful technique, and can be easier to describe since you have already experienced it, rather than it being made up.

I remembered that the writing contest that I wanted to enter ended yesterday. But I know that there are other contests throughout the year. I figure that I want to do my best for this contest, and throughout the month I really hadn't been working on a lot of writing, plus I find it hard to write a short story, that is short short, like only two to three pages long. But I figure with writing, you can't rush it, it should come naturally rather than forced.

What I've also considered about writing, is that you should always hold on to your writing. For the most part, I've kept all of my writing, practically ever since I was in 5th grade I started writing fiction stories... though most of them I never finished. But it's always good to see how much you've improved.

a new experience

For some people it can be hard to stay committed to writing. At least for me it's challenging... to find the motivation and time for it isn't always easy. I'm the kind of person who can't write everyday, because I feel different everyday. Sometimes after a long day at school I'm tired and maybe even in a bad mood and I have no interest in writing or working on my story. Other days, I may have a lot of free time and feel inspired with what I experienced throughout the day, that I feel it is good enough to jot it down. So it varies, and it can ,make it harder to get anything down in a matter of days. However, I down ant to enter a writing contest which  found online because I feel it would be good experience, and the are offering good prizes. It calls for a short story, so 250-750 words, which is actually hard, considering that it's only 2 pages. I hope I can make the deadline and have perseverance to keep on writing, although it may not be very good. So whoever is interested in this sort of thing, there are plenty of creative writing contests out there that offer benefits of you do win.
Perseverance also works in the real world outside of writing. This includes school, work, sports and any other activity in your life. Applying this character trait to other things in your life will be helpful, and it will help any writers who have a hard time continuing with their writing.
